Who we are

We discovered Costa Rica in 1995 on what was supposed to be a month long Kayaking trip. We quickly fell in love with the country, its people, and its way of life. Somehow, one month has quickly turned into nine years! We'd worked for several adventure companies when we decided two things: first, this is what we wanted to do with our lives. Second, we could do this one heck of a lot better than the existing companies. So, we pooled our resources and launched Green Frog Adventures!

Our Mission

• To design perfect, custom vacations for individual groups, tailor-made to their specific wants, needs and abilities.
• To attain the absolute highest levels of safety for our clients by using only the most experienced guides and drivers and by using only the absolute best equipment. (All guides are certified in CPR, First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and Swift Water rescue.)
• To explore the wilds of Costa Rica while avoiding the hordes of tourists in the over-run "hotspots" so popular with the big bus tours.
• To practice a "leave no trace" approach in all natural settings, leaving them exactly as we find them-if not better.
• To allow our clients to experience the Costa Rican people, their culture and their time honored way of life through positive, non-intrusive interaction.
• And, most importantly, to share our deep love and respect for this spectacular, unique country with all our clients and to give you an experience you'll treasure for the rest of your life?

Our Guides

Our guides are what make Green Frog Adventures great. All of our guides are bilingual and educated in the United States. Because the guides are either from the U.S. or have lived there, they understand the level of customer service that Americans have come to expect.

All of our guides are trained as naturalists. They are experts in the flora and fauna that surround you in all of the different tropical ecosystems. You'll delight in an exotic wonderland as your guide leads you through one tropical paradise after another. Your guide will teach you to "tread lightly" so that those who follow will experience the same wonderment you enjoyed. And, as always, safety first, your guide is also an expert in what to avoid in the wilderness.

All of our guides are experts in not only Spanish but also in the Costa Rican culture. We live here and we want to show you the real Costa Rica that we know and love. To accomplish this, we get you out of San Jose as fast as possible. We typically avoid the U.S. style resort casinos in favor of a more natural setting. Now, even though our hotels are located in more rustic settings, they are impeccably clean, safe and at least four stars. We try to patronize Costa Rican owned businesses. We try to mix in with the locals in a way that, hopefully, will leave both groups feeling as though they've gained something from the experience. We don't want to be the 'typical gringos'.

All of our guides are certified experts in all adventure activities. Simply put, we use the best people and the best equipment on the market. All adventure activities have overlapping safety features. For example, a rafting trip for a group of four clients will have no less than four guides: the primary guide, two paddling guides, and a safety kayaker. Likewise, if the Pacuare River is running high and it's raining, WE DON'T GO. This is the standard to which we run all of our adventure activities. Our experience and sound judgment are our best assets in keeping you safe.

Safety, Safety, Safety

Putting together a safe trip starts in the U.S. By the time you get on that plane, we'll already have a clear idea as to your ability level, heath concerns, special needs, etc. Likewise, you'll know what to expect on the trip, what to bring, what you won't need, arrival procedures and so on. Once you arrive, our guides will be with you from the time you step off the plane until we put your tired bodies back on again.

Green Frog Adventures is a licensed, fully insured company. Our guides and drivers meet or, in most cases, exceed the required certifications. Again, all guides are certified in CPR, First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and Swift Water Rescue. We only use newer vehicles that have been designated tourism ready by the Costa Rican government. We carry extensive first aid kits in all vehicles and on all excursions. These measures are not required by the Costa Rican Government, but are the standards of Green Frog Adventures.

Basically, it's our experience, extensive training, knowledge of Costa Rica, and sound judgment that enable us to ensure your safe vacation. As you journey through this amazing paradise, your safety will probably be the last thing on your mind, but rest assured, it's the first thing on ours.
