Day 1 - Turrialba

Arrive at Juan Santamaria International airport where your friendly guide will be waiting to transport you to your first destination.   Turrialba is a sleepy town located on the side of a now semi-dormant volcano.   It's also the white water rafting center of the country.   Once there we'll settle into our plush hotel and enjoy an authentic Costa Rican meal then it's off to bed, tomorrow is a big day!

Day 2 - Kayak School

Today we'll take a short drive through the sugar cane and coffee fields to the headwaters of the Pejebaje River.   This blue-green mountain jewel is a stunning introduction to Costa Rican white water.   In one of the many pristine pools your guide will teach you the basics of kayaking, including the Eskimo roll.   If you feel comfortable with the kayak we can head on down the river.   If you don't like the hard shell kayaks you can take one of the inflatable kayaks known as duckies.   We'll stop half way down on one of the many white sand beaches for a hearty lunch before we finish off the run.   The river eventually runs into your hotel's lake so we'll arrive just in time for dinner and drinks by the pool.

Day 3 & 4 - Rafting the Pacuare River

Wake early for a two-day white water rafting adventure on the Rio Pacuare.   We will travel form Turrialba to Tres Equis where we descend through dense jungle into the heart of the Rio Pacuare gorge.   This is a special river running through some of the last remaining virgin rain forest in Central America.   National Geographic called the Pacuare one of the top three commercial rafting runs in the world.   Between the class III + IV rapids, enjoy side hikes to beautiful waterfalls and look for sloths, monkeys and toucans in the jungle around you.   Half way down the river we'll pull over at our amazing riverside camp.   Sip on a tropical drink or explore the surrounding wilderness while your guides prepare a delicious jungle meal in the fully equipped open-air kitchen.   Sleep under the stars or in one of the enclosed cabinas, but sleep well because tomorrow's white water is even bigger than today's.   From the take-out we'll take the short drive to the mountain town of La Fortuna and Volcan Arenal, Costa Rica's most active volcano!

Day 5 - Canyoning & Canopy Tour

Today we'll head up one of the nearby mountains to do some Canyoning.   Once we summit, we'll put on our dry gear and start hiking down one of the many creeks that cascade down the steep slopes.   In no time at all, we'll come to our first waterfall, a beautiful 100 footer!   The only way down is to repel.   Your guides will rig the ropes, give you a good demonstration, then, it's into the abyss for you!   You'll descend through the ruggedly beautiful canyon, repelling down one waterfall after another to the vehicles waiting below.   Next, I hope you're not afraid of heights because after lunch it's up into the trees for a thrilling canopy tour.   See amazing creatures that spend their entire lives in the canopy as you dangle hundreds of feet above the forest floor.   But remember, what goes up must come down!   We'll zoom down at break-neck speeds using a series of 300ft zip lines!!   After your wild decent, we'll whisk you back to your hotel to get cleaned up for yet another delicious dinner in the shadow of the volcano!!

Day 6 - Horseback Riding & Thermal Hotsprings

Today we'll mount up and take a delightful horseback ride through the jungle located near the slopes of the volcano.   As we travel through the pristine rain forest we're virtually assured of seeing any number of the forest's exotic inhabitants.   That evening, soak your weary bones in one of the steaming thermal pools at the resort located at the base of the volcano.   Sip on a rum filled coconut at the swim up bar while you watch the volcano explode.   Soak long into the evening then settle in for a well deserved night's sleep.

Day 7 - Bungee Jumping

Today we'll head back to San Jose but not before we hurl ourselves off highest bridges in Central America.   We'll end our vacation in style as we freefall hundreds of feet into a gorge with Costa Rica's only bungee jumping company.   Once we arrive in San Jose and check into our hotel, we can check out the crazy downtown area and maybe pick up some souvenirs.   That night, we'll hit up some of the city's infamous Latin nightlife.

Day 8 - Adios

After breakfast, depart for the airport where you'll return home with great memories of a perfect tropical vacation.
