Wildlife Float
Beautiful tropical birds are easily seen on a wildlife float |
Not all rafting needs to be an adrenaline induced, heart pumping experience but rather floating safari down a mellow river in Costa Rica is a perfect way to make your way deep into the jungles, rainforests and lowlands of Costa Rica. Perched from your dry spot inside your non-motorized raft you can peacefully watch the brilliant flashes of butterflies, find snakes coiled and sleeping in the tress, observe colorful tropical birds fly by overhead all to the chatter of clans of monkeys making their way across the canopy all with magnificent flora as a backdrop. With such a diverse variety of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects the entertainment is all around you constantly. Watch wide eyed as the mysteries of Costa Rica's natural inhabitants interact in ways that you would never see on TV. Your guide, a trained naturalist, is well practiced and will help you see the camouflaged animals that are right in front of you and answer any questions you may or may not have asked about this spectacular beauty.
We do wildlife floats all over the country but there are two we are most fond of. |
The Rio Frio in Caño Negro is world renowned for its concentration of birds and is the birders paradise (premiere destination in Central America). The Rio Frio's landscape is similar to that found in other famous wetlands such as the Florida Everglades and the Mekong Delta. Birds most likely to be seen here include kingfisher, heron, egret, ibis, rail, anhinga, , roseate spoonbill and stork with common sittings of olivaceous cormorant, Nicaraguan grackle and yellow-headed vultures.
Just to make things interesting, Caimans, relatives to crocodile and alligators are sometimes seen here as well as puma, jaguar and tapir. Commonly however, you will find howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin and two-toed sloth. The Rio Frio and Cano Negro area is also a common place to find river turtle. |
The flora is almost as beautiful as the fauna |

See all sorts of birds on your wildlife safari

The Peñas Blancas near La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano is another of our favorites due to its close proximity to the Arenal Volcano and other adventure activities. The wildlife watching here includes monkeys, sloths, iguanas tortoises crocodiles and all sorts of beautiful tropical birds including green macaws, toucans, roseate spoonbills, and honey creepers.
