Costa Rica Adventure Tour Sample Intinerary
Day 1 Welcome!
Arrive at Juan Santamaria International airport
where your guides will be waiting to transport you to your
first exotic destination. Turrialba is a sleepy town located
on the side of one of Costa Rica's tallest volcanoes. It's
also the white water rafting center
of the country. Once there we'll settle into our plush plantation
style hotel located on the shores its own private lake. Enjoy
an authentic Costa Rican meal then it's off to bed, tomorrow
is a big day! |
Day 2
Canyoning Volcan Turrialba
Today we embark on our first crazy adventure.
Volcan Turrialba rises and amazing 10,000 feet above sea level
and we'll ascend this behemoth using a combination of 4 x
4s, horses, and our own two feet.
Once we summit, we'll enjoy a gourmet lunch while we're awed
by the spectacular, panoramic view. After lunch, we'll put
on our dry gear and start hiking down one of the many creeks
that cascade down the steep slopes. In no time at all, we'll
come to our first waterfall, a beautiful 100 footer! The only
way down is to repel. Your guides will rig the ropes, give
you a good demonstration, then, it's into the abyss for you!
You'll descend through the ruggedly beautiful canyon, repelling
down one waterfall after another to the vehicles waiting below.
After your wild decent, we'll head back to the hotel for a
poolside diner and maybe a few cervezas.

Day 3 Kayak School
Today we make the short drive up to the headwaters
of the Pejibaje River. In one of the crystal blue-green pools
your guide will teach you the basics of white water kayaking.
Those of you who can successfully demonstrate the Eskimo roll
will descend in Kayaks, others will want to use river duckies
(inflatable kayaks). We'll proceed down this incredible class
II-III jungle creek stopping for lunch at one of the many
sandy beaches. The river eventually empties into you hotel's
private lake. You may choose to paddle across the lake or
zip across in the hotel's speedboat. Either way, we'll arrive
just in time for another gourmet dinner.

Day 4 & 5
Rafting the Pacuare River
Wake early for a two-day white water rafting
adventure down the Rio Pacuare. We'll travel from Turrialba
to Tres Equis where we descend through dense jungle to the
heart of the Pacuare gorge. This is a unique river running
through the last remaining virgin rain forest in Central America.
National Geographic called the Pacuare one of the top three
rafting runs in the world. Between the class III and IV rapids,
enjoy side hikes to beautiful waterfalls and look for sloths,
toucans and other wild creatures in the jungle around you.
Half way down, we'll pull over and your guides will set up
camp. Sip on a tropical drink or explore the surrounding wilderness
as your guides prepare a delicious jungle meal. Sleep, under
the stars or on one of the elevated tented platforms, but
sleep well because tomorrow's rapids are even bigger than
today's! From the takeout we'll travel to Arenal Volcano and
our next exciting tropical adventure!

Day 6 Arenal Volcano
We'll start the day with a beautiful hike/scramble
to La Fortuna falls, one of Costa Rica's tallest and most
spectacular waterfalls. Swim in one of the many pristine pools
at the base of the falls, or just relax and take in the spectacular
natural beauty around you. Next, I hope you're not afraid
of heights because after lunch it's up into the trees for
a thrilling canopy tour. See
amazing creatures that spend their entire lives in the canopy
as you dangle hundreds of feet above the forest floor. But
remember, what goes up must come down! We'll zoom down at
break-neck speeds using a series of six 300ft zip lines!!
That evening, soak your weary bones in one of the steaming
thermal pools at Tabacon resort located at the base of the
volcano. Sip on a rum filled coconut at the swim up bar while
you watch the volcano explode. Soak long into the evening
then settle in for a well deserved night's sleep.

Day 7 San Jose
Today we'll head back to San Jose, but not before
we throw ourselves off one of the highest bridges in Central
America! That's right, we'll end this trip in style as we
freefall hundreds of feet into a gorge with Costa Rica's only
bungee Jumping company! Once in San Jose, we'll dine at one
of the many fine restaurants and then we'll sample some of
the city's infamous nightlife.
Day 8 Adios
After breakfast, depart for the airport where
you'll return home with great memories of an absolutely perfect
vacation.
